Movie Review

Rating: 3/10

Synopsis: In “Boomer Uncle,” Nesam (Yogi Babu) and his soon-to-be ex-wife Amy, a foreigner with a hidden agenda, visit Nesam’s neglected ancestral castle to finalize their divorce. Simultaneously, Nesam’s old friends Dawood (Seshu), Bala (Billu), and Thangadurai arrive with their own intentions. Chaos ensues when a hologram of Oviya and a bizarre “Franken-Hulk” monster with Robo Shankar’s head are introduced, derailing any semblance of coherence.

Review: “Boomer Uncle” sets out to embrace lighthearted absurdity but struggles to find its comedic footing. The film leans heavily on slapstick, buffoonery, and outrageous plot twists, yet the execution feels more exhausting than entertaining. The premise, involving dimwitted men pursuing women amid a mad-scientist subplot, is as ludicrous as it is uninspired.

Yogi Babu, known for his comedic prowess, attempts to inject energy into the film. However, the script’s relentless focus on frantic gags overshadows his talents, leaving little room for genuine humor or character development. The supporting characters, particularly Nesam’s friends, lack depth, and their antics with the female leads fail to land any laughs.

The film’s visual effects are tacky, and the score is loud and intrusive, further detracting from potential comedic moments. As the narrative progresses, “Boomer Uncle” descends from tedium into outright absurdity, culminating in a disappointing final act that fails to redeem the film’s earlier missteps.

The confined setting of the mansion limits the film’s scope, adding to its shortcomings. Seshu’s character, despite significant screen time, serves mainly as a vessel for crude humor, squandering his talents. Even Oviya’s appearance feels out of place, failing to add substance to her role as touted.

Ultimately, “Boomer Uncle” is a comedy misfire—a cacophony of noise and chaotic energy that misses the mark in delivering genuine laughs or engaging storytelling. With its puerile humor and disjointed plot, the film struggles to entertain and leaves the audience indifferent, making it a forgettable addition to the genre.

While “Boomer Uncle” attempts to ride on absurdity and comic exaggeration, its execution falls flat, failing to capitalize on its potential for humor and narrative coherence. Fans of Yogi Babu may find fleeting moments of amusement, but overall, this film misses the mark as a compelling comedy.
