Review

The movie “Election,” which portrays a political scenario akin to a battlefield, has been released in the backdrop of the impending election jury in Tamil Nadu. The film depicts the journey of Nallasivam (George Mariyan), who has struggled for many years without attaining any significant position, from being a local goon to becoming a contender in the election. His son, Nadarasan (Vijaykumar), lacks interest in politics but is forced to stand in the election against his father’s adversary due to his brother-in-law’s coercion. This puts him and those around him in significant jeopardy. Will Nadarasan emerge victorious in the election despite facing challenges? What measures will he take to counter these challenges? This is the storyline of “Election.”

Director Tamil, who previously directed “Sethum Aayiram,” has once again taken up the theme of political drama and food politics. In a narrative that seeks justice, political power is depicted as a force that directly or indirectly affects people’s lives. He strives to convey the impact of politics on people’s lives before concluding.

Right from the beginning to the end, the discussions about political matters in “Election” are engaging. Even within the first 10 minutes of the film, introducing a love song does not seem out of place. Shouldn’t there be a scene where the hero falls in love? However, not inserting such a scene from the start does not detract from the film’s overall narrative. But entering a full-fledged love song before the story unfolds is a drawback.

Furthermore, Vijaykumar is making every effort to portray his character convincingly. His acting is commendable in many scenes, although he appears to struggle in some places. His portrayal of Preethi Asrani in “Ayodhy” also contains a gripping narrative. George Mariyan as the protagonist’s father, Pavel Navageethan as his brother-in-law, Thilakan, and Nassar all deliver exceptional performances.

The music by Govind Vasantha adds depth to many scenes, effectively complementing the narrative. The cinematography by Mahendran Jayaraju is flawless, with no noticeable drawbacks. S. Premkumar’s editing deserves attention, and the slow-motion shots used in many places contribute to the overall impact of the scenes.
