Movie Review

The story centers around the Kolar Gold Fields (K.G.F), a highly coveted gold mine. The partners of K.G.F want to take the land for themselves, so they send Rocky, portrayed by Yash, to kill its ruler. Unexpectedly, Rocky assumes control of K.G.F. Chapter 2 details his reign over the gold fields. Rocky, having had a tough childhood, promised his mother on her deathbed to become the richest man in the world. His character development is exceptional, portraying him as inspiring and self-reliant, capable of achieving anything on his own.

The supposed villain, Adheera, portrayed by Sanjay Dutt, is the brother of the previous ruler of K.G.F. Adheera is characterized by his cruelty, strength, and penchant for war. The movie is not just about a criminal’s rise to power; it’s about a son’s promise to his mother. Rocky’s only motivation is this promise, driving his every action. Another significant theme is the plight of the workers in K.G.F. Rocky wins their trust, which becomes pivotal in his takeover.

While there are many positives, there are also notable issues. The film’s music stands out, with custom tunes for different moments, enhancing the viewing experience. The story is told in a flashback, with a journalist narrating Rocky’s tale, maintaining a presence throughout the film, unlike in similar narratives like Baahubali 2. The dubbing is well-executed across languages, making the film accessible to a broader audience. The songs are short, beautiful, and engaging, maintaining the audience’s interest.

However, a significant plot contradiction arises from the transition between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. At the end of Chapter 1, the heroine, Srinidhi Shetty, shows care for Rocky, but in Chapter 2, she is hostile towards him. This inconsistency is a glaring oversight. Additionally, the characters, especially Rocky, are depicted as too perfect, which can be unrelatable. Unlike the more human portrayal of Pushparaj in the Pushpa series, Rocky’s invincibility throughout the series feels unrealistic.

The antagonist, Adheera, lacks sufficient development, which is crucial for a balanced narrative. While Rocky’s character is well fleshed out, Adheera’s characterization falls short. Despite these flaws, the film is cleverly directed, making the imperfections less noticeable on initial viewings, which likely contributed to its impressive box office performance.

KGF: Chapter 2 is a cleverly directed film with its share of pros and cons. It’s recommended for fans of the series and anyone looking for an engaging film. Suitable for viewers above 12 due to some gore, it’s a film that entertains despite its flaws.
