Movie Review

Tantiram (2023): A Promising Start with Supernatural Intrigue

Tantiram, Chapter 1: Tales of Shivakasi, introduces a compelling narrative centered on Balachandran (Srikanth Gurram), whose reserved life undergoes transformation after marriage to Alagini (Priyanka Sharma). The film explores his family’s struggles, particularly with the Adilakshmi Fire Crackers Factory, which unexpectedly prospers amidst mysterious circumstances linked to a malevolent force named Jinn.

Srikanth Gurram delivers a decent performance, effectively conveying Balachandran’s emotional journey, while Priyanka Sharma impresses with her charisma and presence. Avinash shines in his role as Balachandran’s father, bringing depth to his character.

The screenplay, penned by Muthyala Meher Deepak, integrates mythological elements and supernatural intrigue adeptly, though pacing issues occasionally hinder its flow. The film’s shorter runtime proves advantageous, maintaining viewer engagement despite its narrative complexities and hints at a sequel.

Vamsi Srinivas Sirugudi’s cinematography captures scenic locales beautifully, enhancing the film’s visual appeal, complemented by Ajay Arasada’s effective background score. However, editing could have been sharper.

Overall, Tantiram presents an intriguing concept with commendable technical aspects and performances, despite its occasional narrative sluggishness and a storyline that feels thin in parts. With its promising start and captivating climax, the film sets the stage for an anticipated continuation.

Cinejosh recognizes Tantiram: Chapter 1: Tales of Shivakasi as a commendable effort in supernatural storytelling, poised to captivate audiences with its blend of psychological depth and mythological intrigue.
