Movie Review

“Vadakkupatti Ramasamy” breathes fresh life into Tamil comedy, breaking away from the dry spell of quality comedies in recent years. Directed by Karthik Yogi, the film cleverly satirizes superstition, religious fanaticism, and societal norms while injecting a meta-commentary on the Covid era.

Santhanam shines in a restrained role as Ramasamy, a non-believer who exploits villagers’ superstitions to create a deity and rise to prominence. The narrative skillfully navigates comedic territory without losing sight of its thematic depth, though it stumbles in its final act with a tonal shift that sacrifices nuance.

The supporting cast, particularly Seshu, Maaran, and Ravi Maria, deliver uproarious performances, injecting vitality into scenes that occasionally veer off-track. Megha Akash impresses as Kayal Vizhi, a character who transcends the typical romantic interest trope, though the film falters in her character’s final portrayal.

Despite narrative inconsistencies and character arcs that fall short, “Vadakkupatti Ramasamy” excels in its cohesive storytelling and effective humor. It pulls viewers into its vibrant world of eccentric characters, offering enough laughs to overlook its flaws.

while not flawless, “Vadakkupatti Ramasamy” stands as a commendable return to form for Tamil comedy, showcasing Santhanam’s versatility and Karthik Yogi’s knack for blending satire with entertainment.
