Maidaan Review

“Maidaan” stands out as a remarkable and truly inspiring sports biopic in Bollywood, reminiscent of classic masterpieces. Despite receiving many positive responses, it unfortunately underperformed at the box office, highlighting a recurring issue in the Indian audience’s support for content and quality-driven films over mass entertainment.

The film excels in several areas:

Writing and Dialogue: The writing is sharp, with memorable lines such as “Don’t criticize anyone until you understand them,” resonating deeply.

Music and Soundtrack: A.R. Rahman’s compositions are exceptional, with songs like “Team India,” “Ranga Ranga,” and “Mirza” standing out as both heart-pounding and beautiful.

Performances:

  • Ajay Devgn: Delivers a phenomenal performance as Syed Abdul Rahim, arguably one of his best, potentially deserving of a National Award.
  • Priyamani: Excels in her role.
  • Gajraj Rao: Astonishes as Roy Choudhury, a critical journalist.
  • Supporting Cast: Includes outstanding performances by Rudranil Ghosh, Bahurul Islam, Devyansh Tripathi, Nitanshi Goel, Meenal Patel, Rishab Joshi, Aayesha Vindhara, Zaheer Mirza, Madhur Mittal, Chaitanya Sharma, Tejas Ravishankar, Davinder Gill, Amartaya Ray, Sushant Waydande, Abhilash Thapliyal, Manandeep Singh, Vishnu G Varrier, Raphael Jose, Jayanth V, Aaman Minshi, Sai Kishore, Vijay Maurya, and Shruty Menon.

Technical Excellence:

  • VFX and Visuals: The football match scenes are top-notch, giving the feel of watching a real match.
  • Direction: Amit Sharma’s direction is outstanding, engaging viewers from start to finish.
  • Cinematography: Brilliantly executed, adding to the film’s overall appeal.

Despite some opinions about the screenplay being slow, the film is engaging and technically brilliant, making it worth watching.
